There is a shanty town in
Ndola with the name meaning "the cursed place" in
the Bemba language. The Christians living in that
area however, have renamed it to "Mapalo" meaning
"Blessing". In that shantytown there are many
children that cannot afford to go to school but
leaders in that community have come together to
start a community school for these children. They
recognize that without an education these children
do not have any hope to escape this severe poverty.
The school has one hundred and ninety students that
are taught by volunteer teachers.
For those of you that have
traveled with us, you are familiar with Elim Church in
Mapalo. They approached us to see if we can help with
the school. They wanted to use the church for their
school building but do not have any desks or books. We
agreed to help them by building new pews for the church
that could be used as desks during the week and on
Sundays would fold back into pews.
Our team of builders did an
incredible job with the desks and we are so proud of the
love that was poured into the job. Each pew has a
scripture engraved into it that meant something special
to those that were building them.
The school is called Grace
School. This new project is called "Grace 2 Grace" and
we have committed to providing resources and help from
our project Grace Academy. If you would like to help us
help vulnerable and destitute children in getting an
education, please mark your gift "Grace 2 Grace."
